De productivity boosts the overall quality of the steel industry

"At present, remarkable achievements have been made in the ban on 'floor steel', and phased achievements have been made in capacity reduction, creating a good external environment for the iron and steel industry. The whole industry has ended the situation of deep losses, and turned losses into profits. This has brought a positive impact on the variety structure and quality improvement of the iron and steel industry. The steel variety structure has been further optimized, and the ability to adapt to the international and domestic markets has been further improved." Recently, Jiang Shangqing, deputy director of the Ministry of Development, Science, Technology and Environmental Protection of China Iron and Steel Industry Association, said in an interview with China Metallurgical Daily on the quality change of the steel industry and other related issues.

Jiang Shangqing pointed out that the work of reducing production capacity and banning "ground bar steel" has a positive effect on the overall quality improvement of the steel industry, mainly in the following three aspects:

First, the steel variety structure has been further improved, the proportion of plate and strip has increased, and the proportion of long materials and pipes has decreased slightly. From the perspective of the steel variety structure in 2016, the proportion of long materials, plate and strip, pipes and other steels in the steel output was 42.7%, 45.6%, 8.6% and 3.1% respectively. Compared with the same period last year, the proportion of plate and strip increased by 1.6 percentage points, while the proportion of long materials and pipes decreased slightly by 1.2 percentage points and 0.2 percentage points respectively. The steel variety structure showed a trend of further improvement.

Second, the domestic market share of steel products remained at a high level. According to the classification of steel products, in 2016, the domestic market share of 22 types of steel products reached a high level, more than 95%, among which, the domestic market share of railway steel, bar, wire, medium and thick plate and strip, cold rolled narrow strip steel, welded pipe and other products reached more than 99%.

Third, breakthroughs were made in the research and development of new high-quality and high-performance products. The steel for wheels and axles of 350 km/h high-speed EMUs developed by Masteel and TISCO successfully completed the 600000 km/h operation assessment, all indicators met the technical requirements, passed the review of production transformation, and entered the normal production and ordering stage. The production technology of high-strength easily welded extra thick steel plate and supporting welding materials developed by Shougang has made a new breakthrough and has been applied in the field of steel for penstocks of large hydropower stations. The large lightweight hydraulic support developed by Baowu Group and others has achieved a weight reduction of 14%, meeting the requirements of the hydraulic support's development towards large mining height, large resistance and lightweight. Angang Steel broke the width limit of domestic dual phase stainless steel plates, realized the localization and localization of key nuclear power equipment and materials in China, and ended the situation that this kind of steel depends on imports. TISCO has carried out research on the stability control of high-strength steel, lightweight design of trucks, vehicle forming and processing, and has completed the design and manufacture of prototype vehicles, with a weight reduction of up to 15%. The 250mm thick EH36 steel plate developed by Xingcheng Special Steel was successfully applied to the first "Offshore Oil 162" mobile pilot production platform in China, breaking the foreign monopoly at one stroke.
